Boost Your Immune With these 4-Super Foods

With cold and flu season coming our way, let’s focus on eating healthier and add that extra boost to our immune system during the cold-weather months! It’s no secret the foods we eat have a definite impact on how we feel and how healthy we are! Here are four foods I recommend you add to your diet each week.

Green Tea. One of my favorites! I recommend drinking it daily. It can be soothing in colder months and refreshing in warmer months. Plus, the health benefits are wonderful, especially when it comes to keeping your immune system healthy. Did you know that by drinking green tea it might inhibit the growth of bacteria and some viruses, which can lower the risk of infections.

Blueberries. These little berries are packed full of good-for-you nutrients and have multiple immune-boosting properties. Studies have shown blueberries improve the amount of immune boost cells in the bloodstream. Plus blueberries are loaded with antioxidants perfect for helping us to stay healthy and age gracefully! Perfect for smoothies or to add to oatmeal.

Salmon. A perfect cold-weather food in part because it offers us omega-3 fatty acids that will help keep skin supple in the colder, drier months! I eat salmon weekly as it is my go-to delicious superfood! Did you know salmon also provides us vitamin D? Getting enough vitamin D may help lower the incidence of upper respiratory infections, common in the colder months.

Beans and Legumes. Foods such as beans and legumes can help with proper digestion and are also a good source of zinc. Zinc is a mineral that helps to boost production of white blood cells, protecting the body against viruses. Add some beans and legumes to your meals this winter. They are a wonderful replacements for meat in stews, soups and casseroles!

Other ways to keep your Immune system healthy, eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, stay hydrated with lemon water, get at least 30 minutes of exercise five days a week, maintain a healthy weight, get enough quality sleep and wash your hands regularly. - Coach Corie
